Daisey: "He's not dead, I promise, he is completely fine"

Daisey: "Don't believe me then"
Hummer: "Oh for goodness sake mum, I am FINE!!"
Daisey: "See... I told you....."

Hummer is finally home :-D

Hummer trucks like a pro!!

This was Hummers first time up on the truck (other than the cattle truck when he was mustered)!! Yep a little food helps hehe! but still!
He walked up the ramp then let me turn him into place then very calmly walked back down the ramp again after eating his dinner up there..... little legend!
Michelle helped me do this a few more times, and we shut the door and started the engine and moved the truck back and forth, then finally the day came for him to come home!!!
Hummer and Ritchie together! I stayed in the accomodation part of the truck so I could make sure all was okay, and it was. Both ponies travelled like a dream :-)

On the truck!!

Yey!! Have spent the last few days truck training Hummer getting him ready to come home! and he has been very easy!
A little hesitation at the bottom of the ramp, but with a wee bit of encouragement he walked straight up, then down, then up again!

Today I loaded both Hummer and Ritchie as Ritchie has only ever been in a truck to get from New Plymouth to Auckland, and this time we put the ramp up, left them in there for a wee bit.. still no panics.

So Michelle jumped in the truck and started it.. Hummers eyes did look a little like they were going to pop out of his head! but he just coped so well.. so Michelle drove the float forward and backward a little so Hummer could feel the movement. He was a brave wee boy!!

So we pulled the door down, u nloaded the two orange ponies... both were wondering why they went for a drive but were still at the same place!!!

So another go tomorrow! and hopefully will be able to get some pictures this time! Need six hands!

...Nice and warm!!

Hummer wears a cover!
He was looking a little wet and cold, and like all wild Kaimanawas... he does not like the rain!!!!
You would think they were a wee bit tougher than that! But they obviously have plenty of shelter out there in the Kaimanawas.
Hummer coped very well, and with the help of a friend, he got the hang of the feeling of straps and things dangling around his legs and the the sound of the noisey cover.
And as you can see by the first pic.. when I literally threw the cover over his back, he was not too worried!

Hummer begins to lead......

Hummer had no probs with me introducing the lead. I rubbed it over him and wrapped it round his neck and head.
So started to practice what he learnt a few nights ago with the lunge rein on.. bending and turning left, then right....Then a lovely and successful walk outside the stable. He is so calm. Ricthie was running around most of the time in the next paddock and another horse was getting clipped right beside the stable.

...more cute pics of Hummer...

Some gorgeous pics that Jim took today of Hummer out in the paddock.

The Orange Ponies Invade Harry's Paddock!

Harry was more than hospitable when the two orange ponies invaded his turf... we were expecting a fair bit of running around on Ritchies behalf, but he was more than happy to just chill with his two Kai buddies.

Hummer Meets Jim

Hummer is getting to meet more of his family now :-) Notice his eyes no longer POP out of his head! hehe!

Some more cute pics!

Cuddles!!

Hummer is doing really well letting me pat him happily up to his shoulders, especially when food is involved!

Hummer wears high fashion

Well for a horse anyway... ;-)

What is that thing round my neck!!!!!!!

Once again Hummer takes it all in his stride. Nearly ready for a halter!

Yey!! I can pat him!!

Unfortunatly I had no one to take pics of me with Hummer tonight, but we have made progress!

While he is eating his feed, which he just lurves, I can now pat him all over his face.

I was also able to pat him down either side of his neck right to his shoulder.

AND... a was able to rub his halter down his neck, I even sat it on top of his head behind his ears and placed it into his feed bowl so he had to play with it to move it out of the way to get to his dinner... yep mean mum, lol! but he was not worried about the jangling sound of it in the end.. such a good boy!!

Out of the pen! Day three...

Hummer came out of the pen tonight!!

He just followed Ritchie through the gate and checked everything out.

The stable was no issue at all! He walked in like he had done it a hundred times.

He did touch the electric fence though.... stretched his little nose out for a sniff and I wanted to tell him not to touch! but had to let him learn :-( It gave him a fright and he spun around and trotted back to Ritchie.. and then it was all over! lol!! Nothing I wouldn't have expected from any other weanling!!

GO HUMMER!

Only 24 hours later....

...and the little boy has a name... Hummer :-)

He is still just so cool about stuff! Got some neat pics and he just followed me around the pen as I was cleaning it up. He has the BEST ever pony buddy in Ritchie, who thinks life evolves around him... so is showing Hummer quite nicely that we humans are very, very good for scratching itchy spots!!
